Setup Options

Step 1 From the AOL Mobile Communicator main screen, turn the roller to highlight Options & Power Off and press to open. The Setup Options screen will display.

The down arrow in the top right corner indicates there are more menu items on this screen. Turn the roller down to see the Change Screen Name, Help and About items on the Setup Options screen


Settings


Step 1 From the AOL Mobile Communicator main screen, turn the roller to highlight Options & Power Off and press to open. The Setup Options screen will display.

Step 2 From the Setup Options screen, highlight Settings and press the roller. The Settings screen will display.


Privacy Preferences

All changes you make to your Privacy Preferences on your device will update or change your AOL Privacy Preferences on your desktop computer and vice versa.

Step 1 From the AOL Mobile Communicator main screen, turn the roller to highlight Options & Power Off and press to open.

Step 2 Highlight Settings and press the roller. Highlight Privacy and press the roller.

You can choose only one of the privacy preferences.

Allow all users: Allows all users to see you in their Buddy List windows and to send you messages.

Step 1

Highlight Allow all users and press the roller.

Step 2

Change Option will be highlighted. Press the roller.

    Keyboard Shortcut: Highlight Allow all users and press .

Step 3

Press to return to the Settings screen.

Block only people I list: Prevents the users you specify from seeing you in their Buddy List windows and/or from sending you messages.

Step 1

Highlight Block only people I list and press the roller.

Step 2

Change Option will be highlighted. Press the roller.

    Keyboard Shortcut: Highlight Block only people I list and press .

Step 3

Press the roller, highlight Block List and press the roller to display the Block List screen.

Note: The screen will display all screen names you have already added to this list.

Step 4

Press the roller. Add will be highlighted. Press the roller.

    Keyboard Shortcut: From the Block List screen, press .

Step 5

Use the keyboard to enter the screen name(s) of the people you want to include on this Block List.

  Note: To delete a screen name from your Block List, highlight it and press the roller. Highlight Delete and press the roller; a confirmation screen will display.

Step 6

Press the roller. From the Block List screen, press the roller and select Close. From the Privacy Preferences screen, press to display the Apply Preferences screen.

    Keyboard Shortcut: From the Block List screen, press twice.

Step 7

Apply Preferences to one of the following:
  • Press the roller on the Buddy List option to block only the people you list from seeing your screen name in their Buddy List windows (and you will not be able to see their name in yours). However, they will be able to send you an instant message.

    All others not listed will be able to see your name in their Buddy List windows and send you instant messages.

  • If you press the roller on the Buddy List and IM option, it performs the same as the Buddy List option above except that the people listed in your "Block" list will be blocked from sending you an IM (and you will not be able to send them an IM).


Allow only people I list: Allows only users you specify to see you in their Buddy List windows and/or send you instant messages.

Step 1

Highlight Allow only people I list and press the roller.

Step 2

Change Option will be highlighted. Press the roller.

    Keyboard Shortcut: Highlight Allow only people I list and press .

Step 3

Press the roller, highlight Allow List and press the roller to display the Allow List screen.

Note: The screen will display all screen names you have already added to this list.

Step 4

Press the roller. Add will be highlighted. Press the roller.

    Keyboard Shortcut: From the Allow List screen, press .

Step 5

Use the keyboard to enter the screen name(s) of the people you want to include on this Allow List.

  Note: To delete a screen name from your Allow List, highlight it and press the roller. Highlight Delete and press the roller; a confirmation screen will display.

Step 6

Press the roller. From the Allow List screen, press the roller and select Close. From the Privacy Preferences screen, press to display the Apply Preferences screen (pictured above).

    Keyboard Shortcut: From the Allow List screen, press twice.

Step 7

Apply Preferences to one of the following:
  • Press the roller on the Buddy List option to allow only the people you list to see your screen name in their Buddy List windows (and you can see their name in yours) and send you an instant message.

    All others not listed will not be able to see your name in their Buddy List windows (and you will not be able to see their name in yours). However, those listed will be able to send you an instant message.

  • If you press the roller on the Buddy List and IM option, it performs the same as the Buddy List option above except that all others not listed will be blocked from sending you an IM (and you will not be able to send them an IM).


Block only Internet Users: Prevents all users who are not AOL or CS2000 members from seeing you in their Buddy List windows and/or sending you messages.

Step 1

Highlight Block only Internet Users and press the roller.

Step 2

Change Option will be highlighted. Press the roller.

Step 3

Press the roller. Close will be highlighted. Press the roller to display the Apply Preferences screen (pictured above.)

Step 4

Apply Preferences to one of the following:
  • Press the roller on the Buddy List option to block only AIM Internet users from seeing your screen name in their Buddy List windows (and you will not be able to see their name in yours). However, they will be able to send you an instant message.

    All others will be able to see your name in their Buddy List windows and send you instant messages.

  • If you press the roller on the Buddy List and IM option, it performs the same as the Buddy List option above except that AIM Internet users will be blocked from sending you an IM (and you will not be able to send them an IM).

Block all users: Prevents all users from seeing you in their Buddy List windows and/or sending you instant messages.

Step 1

Highlight Block all users and press the roller.

Step 2

Change Option will be highlighted. Press the roller.

    Keyboard Shortcut: Highlight Block all users and press .

Step 3

Press to display the Apply Preferences screen.

Step 7

Apply Preferences to one of the following:
  • Press the roller on the Buddy List option to block all users from seeing your screen name in their Buddy List windows (and you will not be able to see their name in yours). However, all users will be able to send you an instant message.

  • If you press the roller on the Buddy List and IM option, it performs the same as the Buddy List option above except that all users will be blocked from sending you an IM (and you will not be able to send them an IM).



Sign On Options

This option allows you to set or change sign on options, such as Save Password, and Auto Sign On.

Step 1 From the AOL Mobile Communicator main screen, turn the roller to highlight Options & Power Off and press to open.

Step 2 Highlight Settings and press the roller. Highlight Sign On Options and press the roller.

Save Password

No Leave the setting on No if you do not want to store your password. The Auto Sign On option does not display if you have Save Password set to No.

Yes

If you want your password automatically entered when you sign on in subsequent sessions, press the roller. Change Option will be highlighted. Press the roller.

  Keyboard Shortcut: From the Sign On Options screen press .

Turn the roller to read the Terms of Service and press the roller on I accept. If you select I reject, you will not be able to save your password.

If you store your password, anyone with access to your device can sign on to your AOL account. However, the Device Password and Device Timeout options allow you to assign a password for access to your device, which will prevent anyone signing on to your AOL account from your device. Refer to the Device Security section for details.

Auto Sign On

No If you leave the setting on No, your sign on information will not be stored, so the Sign On screen will display when you sign on in subsequent sessions.

Yes The Auto Sign On option only displays if you have chosen Yes to save your password. If you want all your Sign On information automatically entered when you sign on in subsequent sessions, press the roller, highlight Change Option and press the roller.

  Keyboard Shortcut: From the Sign On Options screen press .



Note: If you sign off or power off your device, then attempt to Send an IM or an e-mail, the following message displays: You must be connected to perform this operation. Would you like to connect? Press the roller on Yes and you are automatically signed on if you have Auto Sign On set to Yes.


Device Security

The Device Password and Device Timeout options allow you to assign a password for access to your device, which will prevent anyone with access to your device from signing on to your AOL account. Use the Device Timeout option to set the activity timer (from 2 to 60 minutes.) When there has been no activity on your device for the time period you have set, your device will automatically be locked and will look similar to this:

Warning: Do not forget your password! The Device Password will be required to re-gain access to the device.

Step 1 From the AOL Mobile Communicator main screen, turn the roller to highlight Options & Power Off and press to open. The Setup Options screen will display.

Step 2 From the Setup Options screen, highlight Settings and press the roller.

Step 3 From the Settings screen, highlight Device Security and press the roller.
  Shortcut: You can highlight Disabled, then press and skip to Step 6.


Step 4 Highlight Disabled and press the roller.

Step 5 Change Option will be highlighted. Press the roller.
Step 6 Use the keyboard to type a password for access to your device.

Step 7 Press the roller, re-type your password and press the roller again. Enabled will now display to the right of Device Password.

Step 8 Device Timeout only displays when you have Device Password set to Enabled. Highlight the time displayed and press the roller. Change Option will be highlighted. Press the roller. Turn the roller to set the activity timer (from 2 to 60 minutes.)

To gain access to the device again, press the roller and enter your device password and press the roller. To gain access to Device Security, you will be required to enter the password again.


Screen and Keyboard

Step 1 From the AOL Mobile Communicator main screen, turn the roller to highlight Options & Power Off and press to open.

Step 2 Highlight Settings and press the roller. Highlight Screen and Keyboard and press the roller.

Step 1 Highlight the option you want to change and press the roller.

Step 2 Change Option will be highlighted. Press the roller.

Step 3 Turn to highlight the desired setting and press the roller.

Step 4 Press the roller, scroll to Close from the menu and press the roller.

Shortcut: Highlight the option you want to change, press to until you reach the desired setting, then press to return to the previous screen.


Date and Time

Step 1 From the AOL Mobile Communicator main screen, turn the roller to highlight Options & Power Off and press to open.

Step 2 Highlight Device Settings and press the roller. Highlight Date and Time and press the roller.

Step 1 Highlight the option you want to change and press the roller.

Step 2 Change Option will be highlighted. Press the roller.

Step 3 Turn to highlight the desired setting and press the roller.

Step 4 Press the roller, scroll to Close from the menu and press the roller.

Shortcut: Highlight the option you want to change, press to until you reach the desired setting, then press to return to the previous screen.


Sign On / Sign Off

Step 1 From the AOL Mobile Communicator main screen, turn the roller to highlight Options & Power Off and press to open.

Sign On Screen:

If you are currently signed off the AOL service, Sign On Screen displays. Highlight Sign On Screen and press the roller. If you have Save Password set to:

Yes

the Sign On screen displays with your screen name and password (displayed in asterisks) already entered. Press the roller and press Sign On from the menu.

No

the Sign On screen displays for you to enter your password, then select Sign On from the menu.

Sign Off:

If you are already signed on to the AOL Service, Sign Off displays.

Step 1

Highlight Sign Off and press the roller. The device's wireless radio remains "on" even when you sign off the AOL service.

Note: You can change your Auto Sign On and Save Password settings from the Sign On Options screen.


Power Off

Your AOL Mobile Communicator device contains a wireless radio, which you may need to turn off when there is the possibility that it will interfere with other radio communications, such as during an airline flight.

Step 1 From the AOL Mobile Communicator main screen, turn the roller to highlight Options & Power Off and press to open.

Step 2 Highlight Power Off and press the roller.

If you are signed on to the AOL service, you will automatically be signed off, then the device will power off. Powering off the device will also help conserve battery life.

Step 3 Simply press the roller to turn your device on again after powering off.


Turn On/Off Alerts

Step 1 From the AOL Mobile Communicator main screen, turn the roller to highlight Options & Power Off and press to open.

Step 2

Highlight Turn Off Alerts and press the roller. Turn on Alerts will now display. will display on the main screen to remind you that you have turned the alerts off.

This acts as a "do not disturb" while remaining online, silencing device tones and vibrations, so you can quietly send and receive e-mails and instant messages. This will not automactially turn on the away notice.


Step 3

Highlight Turn On Alerts and press the roller. Turn Off Alerts will no display.

This will allow you to hear the device tones and vibrations that you have set on your device.




Set Up Alerts

You can choose from the following list of options whether you wish to be notified by a sound and/or vibration when:

Step 1 From the AOL Mobile Communicator main screen, turn the roller to highlight Options & Power Off and press to open.

Step 2 Highlight Set Up Alerts and press the roller.

Step 3 To change the setting, highlight the option, press the roller and select Change Option from the menu.

Step 4 Turn the roller to highlight one of the following:
  • No Tone
  • Vibrate
  • Beep
  • Tone 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6
  • Vibrate + Tone 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6
Step 5 Press the roller to select. The selected option will now display on the Alerts & Notification screen.

Step 6 When complete, press the roller and select Close from the menu.

Shortcut: Highlight the option, press while simultaneously turning the roller through the settings. Stop on the desired setting and press back to the Preferences screen.


Change Screen Name

The Change Screen Name option allows you to switch the screen name you use with your device to any of the screen names on your account at any time.

Note: You can also switch the screen name you use with your device by going to AOL Keyword: AOL Mobile Communicator on your PC and clicking on the Change Screen Name link.

Make sure your device is powered on during the Change Screen Name process; the Change Screen Name option does not display if you are not signed on to the AOL service.

Step 1 From the AOL Mobile Communicator main screen, turn the roller to highlight Options & Power Off and press to open.

Step 2 Turn the roller down to highlight Change Screen Name and press the roller. The following message will display:

Changing the screen name for this device will reset your settings to the factory default which includes the deletion of your Address List entries.

Step 3 Select Continue or Cancel.

Step 4 If you selected Continue, type the screen name you want to switch to use with your device in the Enter Screen Name window and press .

Step 4 The following confirmation message will display:

Your AOL Mobile Communicator device has been successfully registered to screen name "screen name." Click OK to continue.

Please wait while your device signs off the AOL service, then displays the main screen, ready to sign back on to the AOL service with the screen name you just switched to.

Help

Step 1 From the AOL Mobile Communicator main screen, turn the roller to highlight Options & Power Off and press to open.

Step 2 Turn the roller down to highlight Help and press the roller.

Step 3 Scroll to read the text, which includes some helpful hints and also indicates where you can get more information and technical support for the AOL Mobile Communicator service.


About

Step 1 From the AOL Mobile Communicator main screen, turn the roller to highlight Options & Power Off and press to open.

Step 2 Turn the roller down to highlight About, which will display the software version number, copyright information, and the device identifier number.
