Signal strength indicator:
Reflects both the transmit and receive signals. The greater the number of bars
(zero bars = no coverage, five bars = excellent coverage), the better it can
communicate on the wireless network.
- If your radio is off, the signal strength indicator displays Off, and you
cannot send or receive instant messages. However, if you are still signed on
to AIM, your screen name still displays in your friends' online buddy list groups.
To send and receive instant messages (if you are in coverage), turn the radio
back on or sign off AIM so you will not appear online to others.
- If you are out of coverage, the signal strength indicator displays no bars,
and you cannot send or receive instant messages. However, if you are still
signed on to AIM, your screen name still displays in your friends' online buddy
list groups. If you are out of coverage, still signed on to AIM and someone
tries to send you a message, the AIM service will attempt to send you the message.
However, if the AIM service cannot successfully deliver the message (i.e., you
remain out of coverage indefinitely) you will be signed off and will no
longer appear online.
